What Makes a Ballet Classical?: Part 2 (The Sleeping Beauty) CPD Webinar
In this webinar participants will devise a set of criteria for ‘classical ballet’ – providing a shared critical lens for observation and analysis of selected video extracts of The Sleeping Beauty (Petipa, 1890). The discussion will focus on the breadth and depth of the choreographic language with particular reference to classical ‘line’, virtuosity and the structure of the grand pas de deux. At the same time, participants will be asked to identify ways in which The Sleeping Beauty reflects the legacy of romanticism – making comparisons with Coppélia as studied in Part 1.
Aim
The aim of this webinar is to improve the participants’ knowledge and understanding of classicism in the arts with a specific focus on dance and ballet.
